Born with a good voice and a wide range, Lee Greenwood's exaggerated vibrato made him one of country music's premier balladeers after he broke into the 1981 charts with "It Turns Me Inside Out," and romantic material made for the bulk of his hits although the biggest exception is also his signature song, the self-written "God Bless America" which earned Song of the Year honors from the Country Music Association.
